“The gourd, which harmonizes with the word “fortune and wealth,” has been a treasure of good fortune since ancient times. This Junyao “Fortune and Luck Ruyi” vase is shaped like a full gourd and decorated with ruyi handles on both sides, symbolizing the lingering good fortune.

The upper and lower bulbs of the main gourd are full and plump, with smooth lines, and the large vessel is more visually tense; the Ruyi earrings on both sides echo the rounded shape of the gourd, and the streaming spikes stretch out like silk.

The glaze color of this piece reflects the core feature of the Jun kiln, “kiln change”. After firing at a temperature of more than 1300℃, the mineral elements in the glaze flow and oxidize, ultimately presenting a unique glaze color, perhaps as purple as the evening sun, or as red as a jewel, or as pink and white, forming a strong color contrast.
